Duck Hen Joins LGRS

A friend of the sanctuary delivered this pretty black duck hen because some aggressive roosters were picking on her and pulling out her feathers.

We have geese, chickens and a guinea here at LGRS but this is our first duck. Since she’s waterfowl, we contemplated placing her with the geese but that will need to be closely monitored for the first few hours to see how they get along.

Otherwise “Charmaine” will have to stay with the chickens. Of course the geese have two large water tanks to paddle around in so that would be best… It was too dark at her intake for joining her with the geese, so she’s sequestered with two gentle chickens in the nursery for her first night.
